I started playing padded football at 11. The dream was never really the NFL. I wanted to play college football and get my education paid for while doing it. That seemed like the best life to me.

I believed what almost every athlete believes: play well and they'll find you. So I worked. And even then, I watched guys with real talent finish high school with zero offers. Not because they couldn't play. Because nobody knew they existed. No exposure, no outreach, nobody running their recruiting.

Then it happened to me. I got benched my senior year. A high school backup quarterback. By the old logic, my recruiting should have been over.

It wasn't. I ran recruiting like a process instead of a lottery ticket, and I finished high school with more than 10 offers. I took the junior college route in 2020 to chase a D1 shot, right as COVID hit. Backup again for most of it. Still earned multiple scholarship offers, and signed at Morningside University on a $70,200 scholarship. Basically full tuition for my last two years.

Five years of recruiting taught me one thing: the process works, but nobody hands it to you. I got snippets from people. Nobody guided me through it. So in May of 2023, in my dorm room, I started Your First Scholarship to be what I never had: a team that runs recruiting with you, makes it manageable, and raises your odds at something this hard, this competitive, and this important.
